The High School Sweetheart

Bob was a devoted husband who always put his wife's needs above his own. One day, he decided to surprise her with a romantic dinner at their favorite restaurant.

He made reservations for the evening and put on his best suit. As they sat down at their table, Bob could see the happiness in his wife's eyes.

As they began to enjoy their meal, Bob noticed that his wife seemed a bit distracted. She kept glancing at a man sitting at a nearby table, who was enjoying his meal alone.

Bob tried to ignore it, but his curiosity got the best of him. He finally asked his wife, "Why do you keep looking at that man over there?"

His wife blushed and replied, "Oh, I'm sorry, honey. That man used to be my high school boyfriend. We dated for a few years before I met you."

Bob was stunned. He couldn't believe that his wife had a past with another man. He felt a twinge of jealousy in his heart.

As they finished their meal, Bob couldn't shake the feeling of unease. He decided to confront his wife about it. "I can't believe you used to date that guy! Do you still have feelings for him?"

His wife chuckled and said, "Oh, not at all, honey. I'm happy with you. But I do have one regret. He actually proposed to me when we were young, but I turned him down."

Bob's heart sank. He felt a mix of emotions – insecurity, jealousy, and confusion. He didn't know how to process the news.

As they left the restaurant and got into their car, Bob couldn't keep quiet any longer. He turned to his wife and asked, "Do you ever wonder what your life would be like if you had said yes to him?"

His wife smiled and said, "Well, I wouldn't be married to a wonderful man like you, that's for sure. And who knows? Maybe if I had said yes, I wouldn't have found the love of my life."

Bob felt a sense of relief wash over him. He realized that his wife's love for him was true and unwavering.

But just as he was starting to feel secure again, his wife added with a mischievous glint in her eyes, "But you know, if I had said yes to him, we probably would have been rich by now."
